Professional situation today

It is well known fact, that humanist occupations are very profitable nowadays. Since childhood a lot of young people consider this work to be very interesting. With such an impression they are brought up in their families, go to school, to a university and after all they begin bringing up their own children that way. Impasse.
Why is it so? What do make people think that manual operations have lost their significance?
There are several reasons.
First of all present machinery reached such a high level of progress that the majority of people is capable of operating it without having specialized technological knowledge. thereby there is no necessity for subsequent spreading of technical skill. Humanits use starts prevailing in all aspects of life.
Secondly it is an actual fact that we live in the consumer society. People in it don’t want to work with their hands. They like to explain the world around and use things, but not to make something by themselves. Of course this fact does not influence positively on spreading of engineering education. People are simply not interested in it.
In the third place is the fact that the resource base has reached such a level of devastation that we frequently have no place for practice after learning the theory.
Finally a very significant thing is the policy of the state. What professions does it suppose as asked-for today? We can easily learn it by analyzing our mass-media. The internet, the television, the radio, the press – what professions do they promote today? It is easy to prove that they are full of non-technical images. Mass-media present us pleasant, nice life in which there is no place for hard-work, but there are a lot of talks, beautiful scenes and fantasies.
What do we have as a result?
Lack of qualified workers in the engineering sphere. There are a lot of philosophers, lawyers, artists, singers, politicians, professors but a few people, able to operate for example a classic jointer planer. This will cause a difficult situation when we will be lacking very simple things which are very important for our comfortable existence.
Besides that our education system is totally destroyed. There is no technical literature of high quality – it is either sold or lost. There is no experienced lecturers able to train adequate personnel working in technical spheres.
Such is the picture. Sad, isn’t it?
Then, there is an adequate question: what should our country do in order to improve the state? It seems to me that there are several actions to be taken. First of all our state should change its attitude towards technical professions and specialities and theirs future. state should apply efforts in order to promote engineering specialities in mass-media.
And of course, the best way to save technical specialities is to assign enough means both for the payment for the people who work in this sphere and to the creating an adequate resource base.
